and Dennis meet in Berlin and decide to form a band which they call

following line up: Dennis Grimm (guitar, voice, drums) Vanessa Kreutz
(violin, voice, glockenspiel, drums), Sten Jackolis (drums,
glockenspiel, melodica) and Tobias Busch (bass, drums, bow).

While waiting
for a radio-session and interview the band decides to warm up by
busking a song in the near-by S-Bahn station. They perform "Time" acoustically.
Just when the song ends and a few people start to gather a security
guard arrives and expels the band from the station by threatening to
call the cops.

Improvisation
Notes:
In their
sixth show ever the band meets a near-capacity crowd at Berlin's best
alternative venue. They play their best concert yet for a thankful and
attentive audience. There a segues between most of the songs preventing
the crowd from applauding properly but after "The second cry"
the applause is all the more enthusiastic. Although already past curfew
the people make the band who has actually run out of rehearsed material
play an impromptu and anticlimatic piece of
atmospheric improvisation. "Dew concubine"
debuts.

Notes:
A special concert featuring visual projections by the band's friend
Michi. The audience sits on chairs in almost total darkness and listens
quietly and attentively. A three minute excerpt from "Twin peaks" is
being screened before the band takes the stage. They deliver a
flawless performance apart from
two fuck ups during "The
second cry". "Birds
fly underneath television satellites"
is being extended to 8 minutes running time by way of a different intro
which includes bird sounds produced by Vanessa. There is a new
Glockenspiel-transition
between "Tiny spiderwebs"
and "All women are
witches". The latter has gained yet more
intensity as well as length and is tonight's emotional highlight.

Notes:
Sandwiched between two great and successfull concerts this
comparably unremarkable show finds the band revealing their set for the
following Efterklang/November gigs. The return of "Time" to a setlist
(last performed in Chemnitz
05.06.2009) is a highlight in an otherwise
slightly subdued and unfirm set. The music fails to captivate the very
small audience who seems to be here mainly for talking and drinking.

The
second cry Pt. I-IV, Ravelling
Notes:
The
Magnificent Birthday concert evokes the line up of the first
gig of the
year. Admission to this Tuesday show is free and the club is
packed
with ca. 200 people. The crowd is evenly divided into concert attendees
and people who come here for the regular Tuesday dance event. Those who
come to the club to dance chat and talk loudly throughout the
performance which makes it hard to concentrate on the live music during
the more silent parts. Sandy Bird are not being put off by the
difficult circumstances and deliver a spectacular and exceptional
performance! This is not only the longest show so far played by the
band, they also bring back the early favourite "Corn moths killer" for
the first time since 09.05.2009.
"Risk - Reward - Ratio",
another classic from the first EP, is performed for the first time
since 09.07.2009.
Also for the first time since 24.10.2009
(seven shows ago) the "The
second cry"-suite is played in its glorious entirety! To
top it ultimately off they debut a brand new song ("Ravelling")! When
the band enters the stage and notices the loud background noise they
shorten the intro to "All
women are witches". It takes them full 20 minutes until
the loud climax in "Tiny
spiderwebs" to make the set peak for the first
time. From now on the band let's their hair down, giving all and
playing liberatedly. "Corn
moths killer"
-- the emotional highlight of this show -- is performed slower than
previous versions. The middle part is build up systematicly with a
march like rhythm. The encore is nothing but epic! When "Risk - Reward - Ratio"
slowly fades into "The
second cry" the people cannot contain themselves and
scream in delight and anticipation. As if the sheer volume of "The second cry" wasn't
enough to exhaust band and audience they give us tonight's icing on the
cake: The new song "Ravelling"
performed at the very end of the set is a short 80s influenced dark pop
number that finds Vanessa playing Glockenspiel. The "vocals"
are a
very cool dual rap by Vanessa and Dennis. Although marred by difficult
circumstances due to the talkative audience as well as a slightly sub
standard sound this is a mindblowing gig -- Sandy Bird in full lenght!
